Artificial intelligence is no longer a theoretical concept in medicine — it is an active clinical reality reshaping how we plan, execute, and recover from surgery. We are recruiting visionary leaders at the intersection of surgery and data science.
The Journal of Surgical Intelligence was founded to bridge the critical gap between computational data science and practical patient care. To maintain the highest standards of scientific rigor and clinical relevance, we are actively recruiting world-class clinical and technical experts who are passionate about shaping the future of the operating room.
Who We Are Looking For
1. Clinical Experts
- Board-certified or board-eligible surgeons (any surgical subspecialty — general, plastics, neurosurgery, orthopedic, etc.) or anesthesiologists.
- A demonstrated, peer-reviewed publication history in surgical innovation, robotics, outcomes modeling, or the clinical implementation of advanced technologies.
- A proven ability to critically evaluate whether a technological advancement holds genuine, practical value for patient outcomes and surgical workflows.
2. Technical Experts
- PhD-level researchers, machine learning engineers, or data scientists with a focus on healthcare applications.
- Demonstrated expertise in fields directly applicable to surgery — computer vision, deep learning, NLP, predictive analytics, biomaterials, or autonomous robotic systems.
- A track record of high-impact research, algorithmic validation, and a strong understanding of medical data privacy, algorithmic bias, and model generalizability.
Editorial Board Responsibilities
Board members are active participants in the journal's growth and academic integrity. Expectations include:
- Peer Review: Providing timely, highly constructive reviews for 4 to 6 manuscripts per year within your area of expertise.
- Strategic Guidance: Advising the Editor-in-Chief on emerging trends, potential special issues, and shifts in the AI landscape the journal should cover.
- Advocacy: Championing the journal within your academic and professional networks, and encouraging high-quality submissions from colleagues and institutional partners.
- Content Contribution: Occasionally contributing editorials, perspective pieces, or guest-editing special topical issues.
How to Apply
If you have a demonstrated history of excellence in these fields and wish to help guide the premier platform for AI in surgery, we invite you to apply. Please submit the following to Editor@JSurgicalIntelligence.com:
- A Current Curriculum Vitae (CV): Highlighting your relevant publications, academic appointments, and technical or clinical leadership roles.
- A Statement of Interest (Max 500 words): Briefly detailing your specific area of expertise (e.g., intraoperative computer vision, predictive outcome modeling) and your vision for how AI will impact your discipline over the next five years.
All applications are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and the founding executive committee. We strive to maintain a board that is diverse in geography, clinical specialty, and technical background.
