Advancing the future of the operating room
An open-access, peer-reviewed home for the most consequential research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and surgical practice.
About the Journal
The Journal of Surgical Intelligence is an open-access, peer-reviewed medical journal freely accessible to readers worldwide without subscription barriers. Dedicated to the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence in the operating room, our publication bridges the gap between computational data science and practical patient care.
The Journal of Surgical Intelligence serves as a scholarly platform that makes cutting-edge technological advancements widely available, benefiting the medical community through articles subject to high-level peer review by eminent clinical and technical experts. We adhere strictly to the highest ethical policies and academic standards to ensure the integrity of all published scientific works.
Aims & Scope
The Journal of Surgical Intelligence provides a dedicated, streamlined forum for physicians, scientists, and medical researchers from all backgrounds to publish original high-quality research, algorithmic validations, clinical case studies, and procedural innovations.
Our focus encompasses the full spectrum of surgical AI applications, including but not limited to: machine learning in preoperative planning, computer vision for intraoperative guidance, robotic-assisted automation, predictive outcome modeling, and AI-driven tissue analysis and regeneration.
Multidisciplinary by design. Because our journal lives at the intersection of medicine and computer science, every manuscript is evaluated by both a practicing clinical expert and a technical data scientist.
Topics We Cover
We invite submissions across all surgical specialties — including general, orthopedic, neurosurgery, plastic and reconstructive, and cardiovascular surgery — that address:
- Intraoperative guidance & computer vision: real-time anatomical mapping, tool tracking, and augmented reality overlays.
- Predictive analytics & outcomes modeling: machine learning models for risk stratification, complication prediction, and optimizing perioperative care protocols.
- Robotics & automation: autonomous or semi-autonomous robotic systems, haptic feedback integration, and motion scaling.
- Tissue engineering & biomaterials: AI applications in bioactive tissue repair, skin regeneration, and computational modeling of healing responses.
- Workflow & educational AI: innovations in surgical training environments, simulation, and OR resource management.
Our Mission
As artificial intelligence fundamentally reshapes surgical planning, intraoperative guidance, and postoperative care, the Journal of Surgical Intelligence exists to create a dedicated, rigorous platform for this research — bridging a critical gap between computational science and clinical practice. We highly encourage submissions from multidisciplinary teams bridging computer science departments and academic medical centers, and we warmly welcome collaborative efforts involving surgical residents and medical student researchers.
