Artificial intelligence is no longer on the horizon; it is actively reshaping the operating room. From preoperative predictive modeling to intraoperative computer vision and automated postoperative care, the intersection of computational data science and clinical surgery is the most dynamic frontier in medicine.
To capture and accelerate this transformation, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the Journal of Surgical Intelligence — a rigorous, open-access, peer-reviewed medical journal dedicated exclusively to the application of AI and advanced computing in surgical practice. We are now officially accepting manuscript submissions for our Inaugural Issue, slated for publication later in 2026.
Scope and Focus
We seek high-quality original research, algorithmic validations, clinical case studies, and comprehensive reviews. We invite submissions across all surgical specialties (including general, orthopedic, neurosurgery, plastic and reconstructive, and cardiovascular) that address:
- Intraoperative Guidance & Computer Vision: Real-time anatomical mapping, tool tracking, and augmented reality overlays.
- Predictive Analytics & Outcomes Modeling: Machine learning models for risk stratification, complication prediction, and optimizing perioperative care protocols.
- Robotics & Automation: Autonomous or semi-autonomous robotic systems, haptic feedback integration, and motion scaling.
- Tissue Engineering & Biomaterials: AI applications in bioactive tissue repair, skin regeneration, and computational modeling of healing responses.
- Workflow & Educational AI: Innovations in surgical training environments, simulation, and OR resource management.
We highly encourage submissions from multidisciplinary teams bridging computer science departments and academic medical centers. Collaborative research efforts involving surgical residents and medical student researchers are warmly welcomed.
